Studying Japanese

Studying Japanese, especially the vocabulary, is fun and amusing because it's like a playground or a junk store.  Once a word is learned, it's mine forever, an immaterial possession.  I don't need to know everything, naturally.  People don't know what happens to their memories in the afterlife.  What is the next phase like, and what can people bring with them?
